We are happy to take part in Homo Faber Fellowship, a new education initiative for craft graduates and master artisans, a programme developed by the Michelangelo Foundation. The seven-month programme is designed for duos of master artisans and young talents to facilitate the transmission of skills and enable craft graduates to take the first steps towards a profession in the craft sector.

The names of the speakers taking part in the next edition of the REBOOT international conferences have come to light.

In its collaboration with social institutions, the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation recently developed a partnership with the Pisão Social Support Center in Cascais. 

Degroof Petercam partnered with the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation to hold an international conference in Lisbon. To highlight the way an art collection is created and maintained, with the contributions of Guta Moura Guedes, João Pinharanda (Director at the MAAT Art, Architecture and Technology in Lisbon) and (visual artist) Joana Vasconcelos.

Lisbon 2021, Paris 2022, London 2023. The capital of England has been chosen to host the third edition of the international conference REBOOT: ARTISTIC SUSTAINABILITY – BEYOND GREEN. In October, a group of international experts will gather in London to share their perspective on the conceptual approach to a subject that continues to gain momentum in the art world, focusing on the theme of “Critic Condition”.

As of today, Évora University wins a new grantee. Bruna Gerardo, a 2^nd year student of the Degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia, with a special interest in combining traditional and digital techniques, was the candidate chosen in 2023 by the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation, pursuing a protocol first signed in 2015. 

For the 31st Order of Dentists Congress, Joana Vasconcelos conceived a unique drawing, acrylic on paper, meticulously reproduced by MATCERAMICA on flat plates.

The city of lights hosted the second edition of the international conference REBOOT: Artistic Sustainability – Beyond Green. At Le Carreau du Temple, in Paris, personalities from different areas came together to reflect on the social responsibility of the artistic world on the behalf of the planet's sustainability.

After the hiatus caused by the pandemic, Joana Vasconcelos Foundation has partnered once again with the Study in Portugal Network (SiPN) protocol, developed by the Luso-American Foundation for Development (FLAD) aiming to welcome students from North American universities during the Summer. 

September 2022 brings along the second edition of the international conferences REBOOT: Artistic Sustainability – Beyond Green, which opens at 9:00 am Friday the 9th at Le Carreau du Temple in Paris. A program with varied talks and the goal to encourage creative dynamics and increase social responsibility on a planetary scale returns, after the success of the first edition which brought together relevant international names.

Fátima Mestre and Helena Rosa are artisans who keep the traditional practice of wool blankets alive. At the Mértola Weaving Workshop, they receive Joana Vasconcelos, a visual artist who frequently incorporates textile element in her contemporary creations. For a conversation promoted in the context of the Constellations of Futurama -  cultural and artistic ecosystem of lower Alentejo - Saturday 30 July.

On the 18th of May, at 10 am, the launch of The Notebooks of My Life took place at Atelier Joana Vasconcelos. The event, anticipating ARCOlisboa's return to Cordoaria Nacional, was attended by the editor Lucia Bertazzo.

lille3000 returns to celebrate Utopia. The sixth edition of the artistic festival takes place between 14 May and 2 October 2022 in Lille, focusing on nature, in our relationship with the environment and in the bonds that unite the community.

Joana Vasconcelos’ intervention on the world most famous notebook has been donated to the Moleskine Foundation Collection and took part in the exhibition Detour: See the world through creativity in the One World Observatory - New York (after showcasing in Paris and Shanghai earlier this year). Moleskina Contamina (2011) concentrates much of Joana Vasconcelos' visual identity through the amorphous figure in multicoloured crochet that breaks through the flat surface of the notebook.

The Portuguese President praised Joana Vasconcelos' large scale contribution to the culture and prestige of the country and thanked her participation in closing the program "Artists in Belém's Palace".

The theme for the conversation between visual artist Joana Vasconcelos, Juliet Kinsman, journalist for Condé Naste, and Roberta Medina, the businesswoman responsible for Rock in Rio, was provided by the “Ideas that change the world”, exploring new paths and critical themes for the future of tourism, culture and sustainability. 

Equality and education emerged as two strong words repeated at the gathering "Portuguese Women - Challenges for the Country", organized by Diário de Notícias and moderated by its director Rosália Amorim, to commemorate the International Women's Day.

March brings with it the anniversary of the Barbie doll, the influential creation of Ruth Handler (Mattel) in 1959. Believing in the power of representation as a source of inspiration, today's Barbie pays tribute to the diversity of times, personalities, ages, ethnicities and professional or social backgrounds.

The Joana Vasconcelos Foundation is proud to support the national campaign The Elderly are Valuable, against age discrimination, promoted by the Center for Geriatric Studies of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine (NEGERMI).

In order to support artistic education, and pursuing a protocol signed in 2015, these grants will once again sponsor two promising young women from attending the Visual Arts and Multimedia degree at the Arts School, Évora University latest bet.

The name of Joana Vasconcelos joins a gallery which includes, among others, Amália Rodrigues, António Vitorino de Almeida, Manoel de Oliveira, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Júlio Pomar, António Lobo Antunes, José Saramago, Joaquim Benite or Tiago Rodrigues. 

Next friday, 4 february 2022 at 12:00 p.m., Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos will receive the Arts et Lettres insignia from the hands of French Ambassador Florence Mangin, at the French Embassy ​​in Lisbon. The Order of Arts and Letters, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, honors “people who have distinguished themselves for their creation within the artistic or literary field or for their influence within arts and letters in France and in the world”.

On 17 September 2021, in the context of its internationalisation strategy, Joana Vasconcelos Foundation welcomes a program of events which aims to create and enhance creative dynamics of social responsibility on a global scale. REBOOT: Artistic Sustainability – Beyond Green includes a talk with Ai Weiwei and Joana Vasconcelos regarding the relationship between visual arts and political and social activism.

French philosopher, sociologist and university professor, Gilles Lipovetsky is one of the world's leading references on thought concerning contemporary society’s post-modern transformations. A self-confessed admirer of the Portuguese visual artist, Lipovetsky wrote with Jean Serroy «Joana Vasconcelos or Art’s Re-enchantment», which has just been published by Almedina publishers. Available in Portuguese edition at the bookshops and online.

When the sun sets over Armona (Algarve, Southern Portugal), the time for outdoor movie screenings comes closer. People gather over the sand (complying with all the security measures required), as Joana Vasconcelos’ Foundation brings once again movie screenings to the island, in collaboration with Associação de Defesa da Ilha da Armona (a local environmental conservation organisation). The name of the scholarship holder benefiting from the grant awarded by the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation in partnership with the University of Évora this year has been revealed. It goes to Francisco de Carvalho Nunes Martins da Costa, attending the 3rd curricular year of the Design degree in that institution.

Joana Vasconcelos was the ambassador of the Art Arrived to Colombo award, in search of new creative talents to come.

«Zero waste means finding the balance, reaching stability between what we consume and what we return to the planet», Joana Vasconcelos explained, as Stella McCartney launched her “A to Z Manifesto” for the sustainability of the planet, involving major names within art and fashion.

“We share the same values. We both love tradition, craftsmanship and care for the environment.” When Artistes à la Une challenged Joana Vasconcelos to pick a muse for inspiration, she immediately thought of Stella McCartney. And went on to create "Pearly Gates" through a collage of fabrics from her latest collection and sequin applications. 

«Music has always been a huge part of my life. To the extent that it often finds its way into my sculptures, from the Portuguese Fado to Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night" or Bizet's "Carmen". Therefore, I'm delighted to take part in this project that brings together a social cause and the love of music», clarified Joana Vasconcelos. 

This month, Street Animals association launches the Solidarity Diary 2021 and Quinta das Águias Calendar, with the collaboration of 28 Portuguese personalities - such as artists Joana Vasconcelos, Vhils, Wasted Rita, architects Siza Vieira and Souto de Moura or broadcaster Nuno Markl - who embrace the animal cause. 

“Ten years ago, I was the first artist to take part in "Art Arrives to Colombo" with "Independent Heart". And as time went by I have seen many artists, and especially young artists, creating fantastic pieces for the public space of the Central Square. Therefore, it is an honor for me to participate as an ambassador in this new cycle that aims precisely to discover and value new talents.” Joana Vasconcelos is the ambassador for the "Art Arrives to Colombo" award.

“Solidary Tree”: today at 6.30 pm, at Alfândega do Porto, Antarte’s exhibition opens bringing together 15 trees intervened by 15 artists and public figures, to be auctioned to support the Northern Portugal's Maternal and Child Center. 

"I am used to thinking big scale and monumental sculptures, so when this small, transparent cube arrived, it felt like a huge challenge (laughs). But a challenge I was happy to embrace to help raise funds for THe Cure Parkinson's Trust. I decided to create a textile piece using the structure of a blossoming flower, following the colours and structure of the chakras, with their healing powers", Joana Vasconcelos explained.

Support for arts education is what moves forward the scholarships granted for five years now by the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation, in partnership with the University of Évora. This year, the scholarship holders are Júlia Kovács and Maria Frias Vila Lobos, attending the second year of the master's degree in “Artistic Practices in Visual Arts” and the second year of the degree in “Visual and Multimedia Arts” respectively. 

"Together we’re stronger". South in Action’s motto comes true everyday through a chain of volunteers which produces hospital protective material to meet the special needs of health units under pressure due to the pandemic. 

Joana Vasconcelos has joined the over 20 artists that donated their works in support of the charity Make-A-Wish®, whose mission is to grant wishes to children with critical illnesses.

The French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky visited Portugal and came to Joana Vasconcelos studio for a conversation with the artist.

The French furniture brand Roche Bobois challenged Joana Vasconcelos to reinterpret some of its most emblematic pieces, including the iconic Mah Jong sofa. The result is a unique collection, where the artist uses the materials and techniques that characterise her work to grant a sculpture-like dimension to the pieces of Roche Bobois.

Fundação Joana Vasconcelos devised, together with Académie de Nice, a unique educational project - Joana Vasconcelos – Tournée Educativa, which will be on tour around the schools of the French area of Côte d’Azur.

A Joanina, created by Joana Vasconcelos on the occasion of the 140 years of Topázio, is available in a limited edition, numbered and signed.

Fundação Joana Vasconcelos is selling a limited edition of 100 high quality prints of Joana Vasconcelos’s drawing, inspired by the artist’s work Suspension — commissioned by the Sanctuary of Fatima on the occasion of the 100^th Anniversary of the Apparitions.

The limited edition of Joana Vasconcelos monograph includes an original work by the artist, Independent Heart (Gilded Silver), packed in an artwork transportation box identical to those used by the artist.
